Ex-Barcelona star João Cancelo has on Thursday opened up on his pride at having lined out in the club’s famed colours.
Defender Cancelo for his part of course spent last season on Barcelona’s books, on loan from Premier League champions Manchester City.
And, save for a couple of high-profile errors, the Portuguese’s time in Catalunya’s capital proved to be of a positive nature.
In the end, this did not prove enough to make his move a permanent one, Barca’s financial woes having ultimately culminated in Cancelo taking his talents to Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal.
Nevertheless, though, the full-back himself remains highly appreciative of his time in Blaugrana colours.
Speaking to the media this week, Cancelo was drawn on his short-lived stint back in Spain in 2023/24.
And the 30-year-old, in quotes gathered by Fabrizio Romano, went on to confirm that he will always be ‘proud’ of the fact that he managed to line out for a club as historic as Barcelona:
“I can be proud, I’m happy to say that I’ve had the chance to play for Barcelona. It’s the club I’ve always supported.”
