Two high-profile members of the first-team setup at La Liga giants Barcelona have today been hit with European suspensions.

As much comes owing to their behaviour en route to Barcelona being sent packing from the Champions League last month.

The Catalans of course suffered a heartbreaking exit from European competition last month, when a quarter-final 2nd-leg collapse gave rise to a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

En route to as much, controversy reigned, with the early dismissal of Ronald Araújo having not gone down at at well on the Blaugrana bench.

Head coach Xavi was ultimately dismissed from the touchline, owing to his incessant protests.

And club captain Sergi Roberto, despite not taking to the pitch at Montjuïc, found himself in hot water with the team of officials, too.

In turn, on Thursday, both have been informed of the repercussions of their actions.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, Xavi and Sergi Roberto have been found guilty of ‘unsportsmanlike conduct and inappropriate language against the referee’ by The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee.

Both have as a result been hit with two-match suspensions, set to be served upon their respective returns to the Champions League.
