Arsenal are in action for the first time in pre-season this afternoon as they take on Italian giants AC Milan in Singapore. It has become a tradition for the Gunners to travel overseas in preparation for a new campaign, and this year they return to the Far East for a three-match tour.
For Mikel Arteta, it is the start of his sixth full season in charge and he will be looking to deliver a Premier League title - among other trophies - following three successive second-placed finishes. The Spaniard has been heavily backed in the summer transfer window so far with four new arrivals and two more on the way in Viktor Gyokeres and Cristhian Mosquera.
Noni Madueke has not made the trip due to being owed time off following his exploits at the Club World Cup. However, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard could all make their first appearances in Arsenal colours at the National Stadium. Massimiliano Allegri has named three former Chelsea players in his starting XI to face Arsenal.
Cobham academy graduates Fikayo Tomoro and Ruben Loftus-Cheek both get the nod, while USMNT star Christian Pulisic leads the line.
The American is winless in four career appearances against the Gunners, but scored against them in a 2-1 FA Cup final loss in 2020.
The same is true of Loftus-Cheek - he is also winless in four against Chelsea’s North London rivals.
Tomori, though, is one-for-one against Arsenal, playing 59 minutes in a 2-1 Premier League win at the Emirates in 2019.

Kai Havertz once again picks up the striker mantle for Arteta.
He spent much of last season there and had mixed fortunes, hitting nine Premier League goals.
Mikel Merino, the defensive midfielder who deputised as a makeshift centre-forward as Havertz dealt with injuries, drops to the bench today.
A deal for prolific Swedish goalscorer Viktor Gyokeres is thought to be nearing completion, with the Gunners booking a medical for the Sporting star in Singapore.

Christian Norgaard is the only new Arsenal signing to make his full debut from the first whistle.
He starts in midfield alongside Declan Rice and Ethan Nwaneri.
Named to the bench are Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi.
It is a fairly strong XI from Arteta, who names a front three of Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Martinelli - a common combination in the Premier League last season when all three were fit.
William Saliba returns in defence, but Gabriel misses out as he continues to recover from injury.

Arsenal travelled to Singapore for preseason back in 2018, producing an emphatic 5-1 win over Thomas Tuchel’s Paris Saint-Germain.
Christoper Nkunku, now of Chelsea, scored from the spot for the Parisians on the hour mark to equalise after Mesut Ozil’s first-half opener.
But the Gunners ran riot late on, with Alexandre Lacazette scoring twice in four minutes to put Arsenal well clear.
Rob Holding and Eddie Nketiah scored in the 87th and 94th minutes to tie up a comfortable win.
Bernd Leno was in goal for Arsenal, but he was later replaced by Emi Martinez, with Alex Iwobi, Mohamed Elneny, and Sead Kolasinac also among the starters.

Both Gabriel and William Saliba could return to Arsenal action today after missing the end of the season through injury.
But the formidable centre-back pairing are both fit and set to feature today, Mikel Arteta has confirmed.
“Well, we haven’t seen them for four or six weeks,” said Arteta. “They come back and they seem older, more mature, really excited - Gabi as well because of his new contract.
“He showed his commitment to the club and that he continues to grow in his role, so I am very pleased.
“He (Gabriel) played 45 minutes on Saturday against Watford. He looks in good shape, William Saliba as well.
“We have missed a lot of players at the end of the season, but they all look to be in the right direction and to be fit and contributing, too.”

Arsenal have been proactive in this window as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his squad ahead of a Premier League title push.
The Gunners have already completed deals for Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Noni Madueke.
Madueke is not with the squad in Singapore as he takes some time off following the Club World Cup.
It is hoped that Viktor Gyokeres and Cristhian Mosquera will join up with the side once their deals are completed, with both considered to be in final stages.

Arsenal will be in their new away kit against AC Milan this afternoon following its release earlier in the week.
The design “pays homage to the 90s” and is inspired by the Royal Arsenal Gatehouse lightning bolt, which featured on Arsenal away shirts in 1994-95 and 1995-96.
