Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has issued updates on Kai Havertz, Ricardo Calafiori and Jorginho before the weekend’s match against Ipswich Town.

The Gunners defeated holders Real Madrid 5-1 on aggregate to reach the Champions League semi-finals in midweek.

Although Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes are fading, they will still want to finish strongly. However, their primary focus has shifted to the Champions League.

Arteta shares updates on Havertz’s injury and return date

Arteta has addressed Havertz’s chances of returning to action soon. The German has been sidelined due to injury, and his return has been a topic of concern.

When asked about the prospect of Havertz returning for the semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, the Arsenal manager adopted a cautious approach.

“I think that’s too close,” Arteta said. “But if I had to bet on him earlier than expected, I would say yes.

“The way he works every day in that gym, pushing everybody, I don’t think you can hold him much longer.”

Calafiori and Jorginho are doubtful for the Ipswich game

Ricardo Calafiori faces a race to return in time for the Champions League tie. Arteta confirmed the visit to Ipswich will come too soon for the defender.

“He’s on the pitch already, he’s done quite a lot of stuff and we just need to make the right steps now to make sure that when he’s back he’s in a good place to perform,” Arteta said.

Arteta also spoke about Jorginho’s condition, making it clear that he will not be involved this weekend.

He was asked if Jorginho would be available for the semi-final first leg against PSG.

“That’s probably a question for the doctor – it’s quite a specific and difficult matter, so I will leave that to the club to make an analysis.”

With Thomas Partey suspended for the semi-final first leg, Arteta will want Jorginho fit and available for the semi-final.
