Arsenal kicked off the new season with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Manchester United as their injury woes appear all but over.
Starting the new season as they ended the last, a set-piece goal proved the difference for the Gunners at Old Trafford. But there will be concerns over Arsenal’s shakiness at the back and bluntness in attack.
But there was good news on the fitness front as Leandro Trossard was able to return to training and then make the bench, having shaken off a groin injury picked up during pre-season.
The forward has not featured for the Gunners since last month, after injuring his groin in a pre-season defeat to north London rivals Tottenham during the club’s tour of Asia.
Mikel Arteta has expressed little concern over the issue, and said last week that Trossard was expected to only miss “a few [more] days” before returning to training.
Providing a further update on Friday, before the 1-0 win at Manchester United, Arteta added: “I think he's much better. I think he will be able to train again tomorrow, and if that's the case, he will be fit.”
Trossard was subsequently pictured in training on Saturday and then made the bench at Old Trafford on Sunday. He looks primed for his first minutes of the season this coming weekend.
Potential return date: Leeds (h) on August 23, 2025
Gabriel Jesus last featured for Arsenal in January as the club crashed out of the FA Cup third round to Manchester United.
The Brazilian has struggled with knee issues throughout his stint in N5, and was forced to undergo yet another surgery on a torn cruciate ligament.
Jesus has been keeping supporters updated regarding his progress throughout the summer, but he is no closer to making a return to action.
