It seems that Arsenal’s pursuit of promising young midfielder Xavi Simons may be coming to an end.

Reports indicate that the Gunners are shifting their focus toward other transfer targets, potentially leaving the 21-year-old to extend his loan spell at RB Leipzig.

Reports suggest that Arsenal are cooling their interest in young midfielder Xavi Simons. The talented 21-year-old is currently on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain, but Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta appears to be focusing his efforts elsewhere.

It seems the Gunners are prioritising other areas of the squad for reinforcement. The main focus seems to be on strengthening attacking options with a new striker, while strengthening the defensive midfield is also a priority.

Simons, who has impressed during his loan spell in Germany, is reportedly in talks with Leipzig over a potential loan extension. This would likely put Arsenal’s pursuit of the Dutchman on hold for the foreseeable future.

Here’s a breakdown of why Arsenal might be stepping away from the Simons chase:

  1. Loan focus: RB Leipzig’s interest in extending Simons’ loan deal suggests they see him as part of their future plans. Arsenal might not be willing to compete with a club that can offer him immediate playing time.
  2. Priority shift: With Arsenal needing a proven goalscorer and a central midfielder to compete for the title, they might be prioritising targets who can make a more immediate impact on the first team.
  3. Simons’ development: Despite the current lack of interest, a strong season at Leipzig could see Arsenal revisit their interest in Simons in the future.

Overall, while Arsenal’s interest in Xavi Simons appears to be cooling, the door isn’t completely shut.

The talented youngster’s development in Germany will be one to watch, and if he continues to impress, a future move to the Emirates could still be on the cards.
