Barcelona head coach Xavi did not hold back in making clear his frustration with his players, on the back of their damaging defeat on Saturday.

Barca of course marked their return to action earlier this evening.

In a crunch matchup in the battle for 2nd in the La Liga table, Xavi and co. made the trip to the Estadi Montilivi, for a meeting with Catalan neighbours Girona.

The Blaugrana headed into proceedings with revenge firmly on the agenda, after being put to the sword by four goals to two in the reverse fixture back in December.

When all was said and done, however, a 2nd-half collapse gave rise to the very same scoreline, again in favour of Girona.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at the Montilivi, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his side’s latest alarming lapse following the interval was put to Barcelona boss Xavi.

This comes after Sergi Roberto’s needless blunder laid Girona’s equaliser on a plate on Saturday evening, the beginning of the end for his side.

And, after Ronald Araújo and João Cancelo were also responsible for high-profile errors over the last couple of weeks, Xavi was not at all shy in taking aim at his players:

“Individual mistakes are killing us. I hope we can learn to mature and compete better ahead of next season. We gift the matches to our opponents. It happened twice against Madrid, and now against Girona. Even against Paris.”

He concluded:

“This will be remembered as a season full of individual mistakes. They have marked the season.”
