One of the disappointments for Manchester City this season was the fractured leg suffered by Oscar Bobb on the eve of the 24/25 season. The young Norwegian international had impressed during City’s pre-season tour of the United States ahead of this season. But following Manchester City’s FA Community Shield win over Manchester United Bobb suffered a devastating injury at training.
Oscar Bobb had returned to training at the start of this year. All indications were that Bobb was set to return to the pitch earlier this month. But the young winger suffered an ankle injury which set him back. Speaking during the embargoed section of his pre-game press conference ahead of Manchester City’s fixture against Tottenham Pep Guardiola has provided an update on Oscar Bobb’s fitness.
When asked about Oscar Bobb’s comeback Guardiola told the media: “I think yesterday we spoke with the doctors he feels really good, much better since he came back. He had a problem in the meta (metatarsal) and couldn’t run properly, that’s why he came back. Stop, came back, stop. But the doctors wisely said stop until you don’t feel that discomfort in the ankle then you can train. In the last part, he will be back soon, but I said that one month ago; hopefully, this time, he can come back.”
It wasn’t a surprise to see Oscar Bobb suffer a setback in his comeback from a fractured leg. It was almost to be expected as he lifted the intensity of his training after such a long layoff. But Manchester City have taken a cautious approach with Bobb’s return. The hope is that the rest he has had can aid in his return. It should and City’s approach with Bobb’s fitness is a wise move given the potential he has to become a key contributor for the club in the future.
