Gonzalo García, Real Madrid Castilla’s standout forward, has lit up the youth ranks this season with an astonishing 24 goals in 34 matches.

His terrific campaign in the youth league has propelled him to the cusp of history. Indeed, the 20-year-old is just one goal shy of matching Mariano Diaz’s record of 25 goals, set in the 2015-16 season, as Castilla’s all-time top scorer in La Liga.

With three matches remaining, Garcia will have ample opportunity to beat Diaz’s record at RM Castilla.

Gonzalo Garcia to leave Real Madrid this summer

Despite Garcia’s tremendous performances at RM Castilla, though, his future appears to be away from Real Madrid.

According to MARCA, Garcia is set to leave Valdebebas at the end of the season, with many expecting him to join a first division side in the summer.

Real Madrid, however, are expected to safeguard its investment by including a buy-back clause, a strategy previously employed with talents like Nico Paz.

This will ensure the club will always have a controlling hand in Garcia’s future, especially if he does end up making a big breakthrough in professional football.

But as things stand, Garcia has already become a Castilla legend, surpassing the one-season tally of players such as Emilio Butragueno (21 goals), Jese Rodriguez (22), Roberto Soldado (21), and Joselu (19).

As Castilla fights for promotion, García’s departure will leave a void, but Real Madrid will be closely monitoring the forward’s future in the years to come.

Given the way Real Madrid have brought back talents in the recent past, it won’t be surprising to see Gonzalo Garcia ultimately returning to the Bernabeu, provided he does manage a breakthrough in the near future.
