Here’s what went down …

Liverpool 2-1 West Ham

In the midst of an injury crisis in defence, Liverpool named Nat Phillips at centre-back for his Premier League debut, and was partly to blame as West Ham scored after just 10 minutes thanks to Pablo Fornals.

The home side slowly started growing into the game after that, and equalised on the stroke of half time when Mohamed Salah struck home a penalty.

After the break, the Reds struggled to break through a dogged Hammers defence and only really went close late on when Salah shanked an effort wide from the edge of the area.

That Anfield outfit thought they had taken the lead with 15 minutes to go only for Diogo Jota to have a goal rightly ruled out for a foul on Lukasz Fabianski.

But Jota did eventually get his goal late on, as he burst through the away defence and finished well to give Liverpool a hard-fought win.

Burnley 0-3 Chelsea

Scorers: Ziyech 26′, Zouma 63′, Werner 70′

Chelsea returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a comfortable 3-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

The Blues dominated possession from the off, and were ahead after just 26 minutes when Hakim Ziyech fired a low strike past Nick Pope.

After Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount went close, Kurt Zouma doubled Chelsea’s lead with a bullet header from close range.

Timo Werner secured all three points after being played through by Ziyech, curling a beautiful finish past Pope once again.

Chelsea sit comfortably in fourth place, while the Clarets remain rock bottom.

Sheffield United 0-1 Manchester City

Scorers: Walker 28′

Manchester City returned to winning ways after their comfortable 1-0 win over Sheffield United at Brammall Lane.

The visitors started brightest and forced Aaron Ramsdale into early saves, stopping Ferran Torres twice from close range.

But it was Sheffield-born Kyle Walker who opened the scoring, rifling home a sweet 20-yard volley against his boyhood club.

City slowed their tempo in the second half but were always in control, despite some poor final passes preventing further goals.

It’s now six defeats in seven for the Blades who might have to start worrying.
