Former Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford has hailed Ipswich Town for their achievements this term, taking to X after they secured a 2-1 win against Coventry City last night.

Beckford's former side Leeds would have been hoping for a Coventry win last night, with Ipswich level on points with the Whites before the game but having a game in hand.

A victory for the Sky Blues would have put Daniel Farke's side in pole position on the final day, with their superior goal difference in mind.

But even a point would have put Ipswich in the driving seat, who face strugglers Huddersfield Town on the final day of the season on Saturday.

And they made an excellent start to last night's game, with Kieffer Moore's strike from close range putting Kieran McKenna's side 1-0 up in the eighth minute.

Ipswich could have built on that lead, with the Tractor Boys striking the woodwork, but Haji Wright equalised for the hosts and this threatened to put Ipswich on the back foot going into the final 25 minutes of the game.

But just five minutes after Wright's equaliser, Cameron Burgess put the visitors back in front, and the Tractor Boys were able to see out a lengthy stoppage-time period to secure the three points at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

This leaves McKenna's side needing just one point against Huddersfield at Portman Road on Saturday to seal back-to-back promotions, which would consign Leeds to the play-offs.

Jermaine Beckford's message after Coventry City v Ipswich Town

Daniel Farke's Leeds have been in excellent form for much of 2024 and this is why they will be extremely disappointed by their recent wobbles, with some underwhelming recent results looking set to cost the Whites.

Beckford, who previously played with the Whites, will be slightly gutted because of this.

But he posted a very positive message about the Tractor Boys after last night's game, writing: "Wow, Ipswich Town are really rewriting history! Kieran McKenna and his backroom staff have created a monster!

"Regardless of automatic promotion or playoffs etc, they have proven how more than capable they are of being one of the big boys of the league! Hats off 👏🏽”

Ipswich Town have done a brilliant job under Kieran McKenna

The Tractor Boys have done brilliantly this term and a lot of factors contributed to that.

Firstly, they have some talented attacking players who can either make an impact from the start or from the bench.

Their mental strength also has to be commended, with the Tractor Boys never giving up, allowing them to secure late winners in games.

Individual players have also made a real difference, including Leif Davis who has been a major force in the final third and Moore who has been great since his move from AFC Bournemouth in January.

But McKenna has arguably been the biggest factor behind the Tractor Boys' success, with his guidance allowing Ipswich to achieve great things.
