You can only benefit from the luck of the draw if you’re in it

Celtic’s ‘easy draw’ in the Scottish Cup? That’s somewhat ironic from theRangers fans. What do you call landing home ties against Fraserburgh and Queen’s Park? Incidentally how did that last one turn out?

There’s no denying we’ve enjoyed the luck of the draw on the way to this year’s Scottish cup semi finals. Just look at your bank Balance after three home games on the spin! Kilmarnock, Raith Rovers and Hibs all at home were all games you’d expect us to advance from, but two of them were against fellow Scottish Premiership sides, games which proved to be anything but straightforward for the Scottish Cup holders..

The semi finals have been similarly kind to us as we avoided the more difficult task in the shape of Aberdeen and Hearts, and were paired against rock bottom of the Premiership St Johnstone. I say that will all due respect to the Perth side, as it is a cup tie after all, but it’s a game we will all be expecting to advance from as we aim to book a final showdown for a tilt at yet another treble.

Our rival supporters across the city have been quick to quip about the draw by remarking about ‘heated balls’ and similar stuff, you get the picture, but like Alanis Morissette once sang: “It’s all a bit Ironic don’t you think?”

The irony being that their side wasn’t present in the draw, due to being knocked out at home by mid table Championship side Queen’s Park in the fourth round, a fixture they earned after beating Highland league side Fraserburgh in the comforts of home surroundings in the stadium Charles Green bought back in 2012. The phrase you couldn’t mark their necks with a blowtorch also springs to mind…
