New Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has quickly identified a major issue in his playing squad in Spain’s capital.
That’s according to Marca, who have late this week provided an insight into the situation.
Real Madrid are of course fresh off something of an embarrassing defeat this past Wednesday night.
After locking horns with French champions Paris Saint-Germain with a place in the finale of the Club World Cup on the line, Los Blancos found themselves condemned to the wrong side of a 4-0 result.
The result, and even more so the pattern of the game itself, made clear that Real remain some way off the standard of Europe’s very best at this moment in time.
And as alluded to above, manager Xabi Alonso has already earmarked one leading contributing factor to as much.
As per a report from Marca, the Spanish tactician has walked into a dressing room filled with individuals, rather than a team.
When things begin to go badly on the pitch, as proved the case against PSG, it has been noted that Real Madrid’s players quickly point the finger of blame at one another, complaining and moping, rather than encouraging their teammates.
This is an issue rooted in ego, and one which both Alonso and those behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu are eager to banish as soon as possible.
It is concluded that as much was also noted last season, when Carlo Ancelotti had ‘the same diagnosis’.
