Wolves take major step to beat Leeds United, Everton in Southampton race | OneFootball

Southampton striker Che Adams has reportedly agreed to join Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers despite interest from Everton and Leeds United.

The 27-year-old is set to leave the St Mary's Stadium this summer on a free transfer following his contract expiry, and it is Wolves that have beaten the competition to sign him.

Fellow Championship side, and Southampton's play-off final opponents, Leeds United were said to be in for the Scotsman, but according to TEAMtalk, the striker has agreed a move to Molineux.

Che Adams set for Premier League move

Adams is set to make the move to Wolves having agreed a deal with the Midlands-based side, according to TeamTalk.

In the report, it was said that Wolves boss Gary O'Neil had been searching the Bosman market for players and that Adams was a top target on this search.

Wolves have been keen to strengthen their side following a successful season steering themselves away from relegation and Adams will be able to offer that following a good season down on the South Coast.

He has perhaps been favouring a move to Wolves ever since their interest was revealed earlier this week, given that the majority of his family and friends are based in the Midlands, meaning that this reported agreed move will allow a reunion.

Che Adams' strong season at Southampton

Adams has had a great season for Southampton, with the Scotsman more than playing his part in firing the Saints to not only a play-off finish but now to a Wembley final against Leeds United.

Having struggled to find goals in his first few seasons at the Saints, Adams has come into his own this season following a drop down in division.

In his first four years at St Mary's, his best tally had been five league goals, but this season has seen him better that tally with a vastly improved 16 scored in the Championship, and 18 across all competitions.

His form this year is perhaps reminiscent of the form that first took him to Southampton, when he hit 22 goals for Birmingham City back in 2018/19, and shows that following a few years of arguably low confidence, he has found his spark again and is back among the goals.

Move to Wolves may disappoint Leeds and Everton

Following the news that Adams has reportedly agreed to move to Wolves, Leeds and Everton staff and fans alike are not likely to be too happy.

Both sides have struggled to find a consistent scorer in their respective squads this season and Adams would certainly have offered that if he had opted against signing for Wolves and chose either the Toffees or the Whites instead.

He could frustrate both sides too, next season, only if Leeds beat Southampton in the play-off, and remind them of what could have been if they had managed to bring him in.

Adams will be pleased that he has got what may feel like a long-awaited move back towards the Midlands, but for now, his attentions remain solely focused on making sure he gives Southampton fans a parting gift by helping them back to the Premier League.
