Wolves have acted quickly to find a replacement for Gary O’Neil after reportedly agreeing a deal for their new manager.

The Englishman was sacked the day after his side lost 2-1 to Ipswich Town at Molineux at the weekend, leaving them 19th in the Premier League table.

The Midlands outfit have won just twice in the top flight this season, having earned nine points from 16 games, which leaves them in a battle to avoid relegation to the Championship.

Wolves have decided that Vitor Pereira is the man to lead the fight for survival, with BBC Sport reporting that the club have ‘agreed’ an 18-month deal to make his their next head coach.

The Premier League side are said to be paying €1 million to get the Portuguese out of his contract with Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab.

The 56-year-old was due to fly into England on Tuesday, with his appointment potentially being confirmed before the end of the day.

If Pereira is handed the reins then he will have just five days to prepare for his first game in charge, a hugely important encounter with relegation rivals Leicester City on Sunday.

Who is Vitor Pereira, Wolves next manager?

Pereira, who was linked with the Everton job in 2022, has never managed in England but has won four league titles in three different countries.

The former FC Porto boss won the Primeira Liga title in both of his seasons at the helm in 2012 and 2013, before claiming the Greek Super League with Olympiacos in 2015.

In 2018 Pereira guided Shanghai SIPG to the Chinese Super League title. He has also won two Portuguese Super Cups, a Greek Cup and a Chinese Super Cup.

Pereira has been involved in coaching for over twenty years, having managed clubs such as Fenerbahçe, 1860 Munich, Corinthians and Flamengo before moving to Saudi Arabia earlier this year.
