Manchester City have now seen yet another club enter the race to sign highly-rated midfield talent James McAtee ahead of the summer transfer window.
The back-to-back Sheffield United loanee was retained by Pep Guardiola for the ongoing season, despite the intention from club officials being to either sanction a permanent exit last summer or another temporary move away.
The City manager felt as though McAtee had something to offer his squad, and given the lack of recruitment in terms of fresh energy in the midfield ranks last summer, the completion of his development in the club’s academy system through to the first-team was completed.
However, while the player himself admitted that simply learning and working with some of the best players in the world was enough to outweigh a lack of on-field chances, opportunities on the pitch have been even more restricted than perhaps anticipated.
As such, as the ongoing season comes to a close, and despite registering some bright moments in the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup, it seems as though all parties involved are ready to part ways with widespread interest in McAtee growing throughout Europe.
According to the information of Birmingham World’s Charlie Haffenden, Wolves are now interested in signing Manchester City’s highly-rated attacking midfielder this summer, joining a long list of potential suitors.
It is explained that Molineux bosses believe McAtee is already good enough to start for Vitor Pereira’s squad and feel the midfielder has huge potential to tap into, while it remains to be seen how much it would take to sign the Salford-born playmaker.
Alongside Wolves, there is also expected to be keen interest from other sides in the Premier League including Nottingham Forest, West Ham United, and newly-promoted Leeds United, while there could also be proposals from within Europe.
It was reported earlier this year that Bayer Leverkusen held an admiration for the player, and at the time it was suggested that Manchester City could use that interest in their hunt for Florian Wirtz.
However, with City having exited the race for the German playmaker due to concerns over finances, it remains to be seen whether the recently de-throned Bundesliga champions will make an isolated move for the Salford-born talent.
