L’Équipe reports that VfL Wolfsburg are preparing to arrange a third consecutive FC Nantes loan for French fullback Nicolas Cozza. Since joining Germany’s northern Autostädter from Montpelier in January 2023, Cozza has made just 11 appearances for his Bundesliga outfit. Cozza last appeared for the German Wolves in January 2024.
The 26-year-old feels at home back in his native country, and is said to have requested to remain with Nantes despite interest from Greece and England. The French publication claims that Wolfsburg will once again be loaning Cozza out without a purchase option. Moreover, die Wölfe will assume some of the burden for his salary.
Why Germany’s green company team simply doesn’t sell Cozza outright remains unclear. It is certain that the former French youth international stands little chance of accruing playing time in Wolfsburg behind the likes of Joakim Maehle and new summer signing Aaron Zehnter. If fit, Brazilian left back Rogerio would also stand above Cozza on the depth chart.
Wolfsburg paid just €500,000 to acquire Cozza from Montpelier in the January 2023 transfer window. Since then, Cozza’s estimated market value has dipped from his then career peak of €5m. The Ganges-native is still valued at €3.5m in the latest transfermarkt listings.
