Barcelona star Wojciech Szczęsny has on Friday provided an insight into his current situation at the club.
Goalkeeper Szczęsny, of course, put pen to paper on a short-term deal with Barcelona back in October.
Brought in as a free agent following the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, the 34-year-old was expected to quickly set about securing no.1 status in Catalunya’s capital.
This, however, has since proven to be far from the case.
In fact, Szczęsny is yet to take to the pitch on a single occasion, as Hansi Flick and his coaching staff continue to place their faith in the talents of Iñaki Peña.
Speaking during an interview with Eleven Sports, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, on Friday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his potential debut, and current mindset alike, were put to the Pole himself.
And Szczęsny was as honest as ever in his response, admitting that, if he was Hansi Flick, he would have stuck with Peña to date, too:
“When will I make my debut for Barça? I don’t know. I said from the beginning that I had to get back in shape first and that was the most important thing. Now I feel completely ready to play, both physically and mentally.
“I also don’t hide the fact that if I were the coach of this club, I would play the same number of games that I have played so far, so it’s difficult for me to be frustrated with this situation because I agree with it 100%.”
