Former Manchester United assistant manager Rui Faria is far from impressed with the style of play Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag deploys at the Old Trafford club.

The Dutchman is famous for insisting his team wants to always ‘stick to the plan’, and Faria claims Man United play like a side without any plan.

Jamie Carragher has always insisted Ten Hag has yet to come up with any style of play for the Red Devils, saying after the game against Liverpool that while everyone can see what Reds boss Arne Slot is about after three games, no one has seen what the pattern of play is under Ten Hag after two seasons.

Faria – who was assistant to Jose Mourinho at Man United between 2016 and 2018 having been with him since 2002 – shares the same sentiment, taking to social media platform Instagram to post.

“What does ‘stick to the plan’ mean?” he asked.

“Analysing Manchester United matches it’s hard to identify a plan, because I believe a plan means a team has a strategy for the match.

“A team’s strategy is built on its playing identity, and there is no such identity to be found in those matches. Without an identity there is no plan or strategy just a ‘Let’s see what happens in the match’!”

The fans are not surprised that Man United have lost to Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool this season after the club finished eight last term.

While Ten Hag has managed to win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup since becoming their manager, the team have not managed to blow anyone away given their lack of a distinctive style of play.

Nothing has changed this season and the club’s football department – overseen by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and led by both sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox – is currently scrutinising the game model of the Red Devils.

The trio have viewed the style of play of Man United under Ten Hag so far this season as underwhelming, and the manager is reportedly in danger of being removed if nothing changes going forward.
