Florian Wirtz was on target as Liverpool came from behind to defeat Yokohama F Marinos in Japan.

Arne Slot was able to give exciting new arrival Hugo Ekitiké a start in Japan but it was Cody Gakpo who looked the brightest early on, having an effort bounce off the post in the ninth minute.

Shortly afterwards the Dutch forward was played through with a ball over the top but wasn't able to finish as the Yokohama defenders desperately raced back.

Surprisingly, it was the J League side who took the lead ten minutes into the second half when Ren Kato put in a clever pass that Asahi Uenaka finished.

Liverpool were the superior team though and fought back quickly. Wirtz scored his first goal in a red shirt after great play by Curtis Jones who won the ball in midfield with the German eventually finishing off a quick attacking move.

The Reds took the lead six minutes later through teenager Trey Nyoni who latched on to a cross from the right before 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha sealed the win late on with a superb goal as he cut inside and finished low into the corner.

The Premier League champions have one more friendly before their Community Shield game against Crystal Palace when they take on Athletic Club at Anfield next week.
