Tajon Buchanan became the first Canadian player to join a Serie A club in 2024, but one of his compatriots could join him in the next campaign.

Lille forward Jonathan David has been linked with Juventus, Inter, and Milan for the 2025-26 season. Even if he becomes a free agent with a contract expiring in June, signing him would cost over €30m, considering salary, bonuses, and agent fees.

With 16 goals scored in the Ligue 1 this season, David is keeping up to expectations of football enthusiasts, many of whom like to use top online casino games in Canada, which offer a similar kind of thrill of the unexpected to watching football matches. Recent reports from Tuttosport hinted that USMNT international Tim Weah could play a key role in negotiations, being a close friend and a former teammate of David at Lille.

“David is one of my best friends, he asked me questions. I told him that if he decides to come to Juventus, he must be ready to work hard,” Weah said in 2023, when questioned about Juventus’ interest in his ex-teammate.

Transfer rumours surrounding David have been circulating since the end of 2024 and the transfer window, when, however, the 25-year-old refused to leave Lille.

“Going to a club midseason is never easy,” he told The Athletic in November.

“It’s not like the beginning of a season where you have a pre-season, you get to know your teammates, you have time to gel. In January, things are very hectic. It’s about right now. It’s tougher.”

Serie A clubs interested in David are well aware that other European giants will be competing for his signature, and the striker would surely be tempted to join Barcelona.

“(Barcelona) was always the team I grew up supporting,” he admitted.

“When you grow up supporting a team, it’s your dream to play for them.”

It remains to be seen whether David will pick a Serie A club over other teams interested, with Arsenal and Newcastle also linked with his signature.

Surely, at the age of 25, David has the potential to become one of the biggest stars in Serie A for the years to come, and his signature would allow him to reunite with Buchanan, who will return to Inter in the summer after a six-month loan spell at Villarreal.
