Laura Wienroither says it 'felt like home’ when she returned to sign a permanent deal at Manchester City.

The versatile defender has penned a two-year deal at the Joie Stadium which will see her remain at the Club until the summer of 2027.

It follows her strong loan spell from Arsenal last year where she impressed across eight appearances in all competitions from January and at the inaugural World Sevens Football tournament.

Now back with Andrée Jeglertz’s side, Wienroither is a relief to have her future decided so early in preseason at a club which feels like home.

“Yeah, definitely [it’s a relief to have my future sorted]. To be fair, I did have uncertainty across the last six months,” she explained.

“When you’re away on loan that’s always a different scenario to when you’re at a club permanently.

“As soon as the opportunity came up, it was like I don’t have to think about it, I’m going to go for it.

“It just felt right and also when I arrived here a couple days ago and drove in back to Manchester, it just feels like a match. It just feels like home, that’s why I’m very happy to be here.”

A January deadline day signing last season, Wienroither had little time to adapt to her new surroundings as City continued to compete on four fronts throughout the remainder of the season.

But the 26-year-old explained how the support of Vivianne Miedema, Alex Greenwood and Rebecca Knaak in particular helped her settle into life at the Club.

And the Austria international says the togetherness at City is something special.

“Definitely Viv, I’ve known her from before and we’ve had some really good times in London as well.

“We became really good friends and she helped me a lot when settling in and also before I came here I spoke to her a lot. Then when the season went on I’d also say Alex and Becks, I became really close with them.

“I think they are great humans and they made my time in Manchester pretty special, I’m happy to be spending some more time with them.

“I think that’s what makes it really special, we all care about each other as human beings. That’s always really special when you have that in a group.”

“It’s a very healthy environment, we’re looking out for each other, everyone is treating each other with respect and that’s really nice when you have that in a team environment and is also what’s needed when you want to be successful in a team.”
