With reports Roma are ready to accept a €4m offer from Al-Qadsiah for Paulo Dybala, it’s important to look at the figures and why it’s worth the Giallorossi’s while to sell even for that fee.

According to Footmercato in France, the proposal worth €3-4m is very close to being given the green light by both clubs, with the player agreeing a three-year contract worth up to €20m per season including bonuses.

When the suggestion first arrived that La Joya could be sold, it was assumed this would be for close to his €12m release clause, which expired last month.

However, the idea Roma could sell for €4m highlights the reason they are considering an exit in the first place.

Dybala not quite a free agent for Roma

Calcio e Finanza went through the figures, and even taking into account that Dybala signed on as a free agent in July 22, he still cost €4m in commission for his agent.

With a contract running to June 2025, his remaining value is just €1.1m.

His wages are worth €4.5m per season net, so €8.33m per year gross, and that is not taking into account the performance-related bonuses.

It means that by selling at that price, Roma still gain €11.3m on their 2024-25 accounts.

A bigger problem is revealed by a clause in his contract, which states that after 14 appearances in this season, it will be automatically renewed for another year at the same figures.

On a purely tactical level, Daniele De Rossi wants to set his Roma out in a 4-3-3 formation and it goes without saying that the Argentine cannot handle the work-rate required of a winger, especially when so injury-prone.
