There is still no agreement in place between Milan and Club Brugge over midfielder Ardon Jashari despite weeks of negotiations and a recently increased offer that amounted to €38m with bonuses included.

Here is why the Rossoneri thought their most recent bid would be enough to get the deal done.

Why Milan thought €38m Jashari offer would convince Club Brugge

Jashari, a boyhood Milan supporter, has been among the club’s top transfer targets since the beginning of the window, despite Brugge’s reluctance to let him leave. As per Corriere dello Sport, there has also been interest from the Premier League, but the 22-year-old has been holding out for a move to San Siro.

The Belgian side have made it clear that the asking price for Jashari stands at €40m. Tuesday’s reports indicate that Brugge have been seeking at least €35m in fixed fees.

Milan, however, thought they would be able to reach an agreement with their latest offer of €38m including bonuses, which was ultimately rejected.

According to Corriere dello Sport, €33.5m of Milan’s latest offer was guaranteed, however Brugge would have been entitled to an additional €2.5m in bonuses if Milan were to qualify for the Champions League at any stage in the next five years.

That means that with the ‘easily-achievable’ bonuses added in, Brugge would have likely pocketed €36m from Milan, plus potentially an extra €2m in further add-ons had the latest Jashari offer been accepted.

While the Rossoneri have not yet fully closed the door on Jashari, in the hope that Brugge might have a change in stance, they are not expected to come in with another improved offer as things stand.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Javi Guerra of Valencia is again among the leading candidates to join Samuele Ricci and Luka Modric in the Milan midfield this summer.
