Huddersfield Town have confirmed a loan agreement with Notts County
Lee Grant has explained why Huddersfield Town have let Tom Iorpenda join Notts County on loan for the upcoming season.
The club have confirmed the move for the 20-year-old, who will spend the campaign competing in League Two.
Iorpenda earned five appearances in League One for the Terriers last season, coming off the bench on each occasion.
The youngster has made a total of 12 appearances in the first-team squad since breaking through from the academy system.
Grant has explained that it’s important for Iorpenda to receive regular game time next year in the EFL.
He believes the opportunity to sign for Notts County on a temporary basis is a great chance for him to further his development.
“Tom is a young player with plenty of potential that has come through the ranks here at the Club,” said Grant, via the club’s official website.
“It is incredibly important at this stage of his career that he experiences game time in the EFL to continue his already impressive development.
“A season in Sky Bet League Two with Notts County is a great opportunity for him to get used to the physical demands required to perform at this level, and we are confident that Tom will thrive in this situation.
“We will be keeping a close eye on Tom’s time in Nottinghamshire and are looking forward to seeing his ability and confidence continue to grow.”
Grant has been appointed as Huddersfield manager in recent weeks, and is in the process of building his plans for the first-team squad.
Sending Iorpenda out on loan is just the latest step, as the former goalkeeper looks to create a side capable of competing for promotion to the Championship.
The Terriers have already made the signings of Ryan Ledson and Marcus Harness (pictured), as Grant looks to improve on his first-team options.
Huddersfield finished 10th in League One last season, 14 points adrift of the play-off places.
Iorpenda earned some game time last season, but not enough to suggest he’d be a key player under Grant.
A loan move will help him to gain experience at a slightly lower level, and better prepare him for League One in the future.
He needs regular game time to develop, and it’s clear that he wasn’t going to get that with the Yorkshire outfit this season.
