VANCOUVER, Canada — Vancouver Whitecaps FC won 2-nil against Inter Miami CF in the first leg of their semifinal series as the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup continued Thursday at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The meeting marked a first between the MLS clubs in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Brian White opened the scoring in the 24’ with a header from the six-yard line. Pedro Vite collected the assist with a left-footed delivery just outside the penalty area.
White’s strike improved his all-time tally in the Champions Cup to five, tying Cristian Techera for the club record. With four in the current campaign, White is third in the Top Scorer race behind Inter Miami CF’s Lionel Messi (5) and Cruz Azul's Ángel Sepúlveda (6).
Lionel Messi attempted to equalize from long range in the 29’ but was off target. Whitecaps defender Andrés Cubas provided the man-marking to interrupt the World Cup winner from hitting the mark.
Sebastian Berhalter tried his luck from outside the box in the 59’ but the shot went right to the arms of Inter Miami goalkeeper Oscar Ustari.
Berhalter penned his name on the scoresheet in the 85’ with a right-footed strike from close range to connect on a ball across the penalty area from Jayden Nelson.
The two sides will meet for the second leg on Wednesday at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. The winner on aggregate will advance to the Final. Away goals serve as the primary tiebreaker. If necessary, extra time and a penalty shootout will decide the winner.
