Manchester City take on Liverpool on Sunday at the Etihad in a crucial Premier League fixture for both teams. With Arsenal’s 1-nil defeat to West Ham earlier today, Liverpool has the chance to open up an 11-point lead at the top of the Premier League table with a victory over City. For Pep Guardiola’s side a win could see them take advantage of Chelsea and Bournemouth’s defeats in the race for a top-four finish this season.
From a City point of view, they’ll have to be at their best to beat Arne Slot’s side. If they aren’t we could see a repeat of City’s result against Liverpool earlier this season. Manchester City’s past two performances against Newcastle and Real Madrid couldn’t have been any more different. Pep Guardiola’s side dominated Newcastle last Saturday to pick up a 4-nil win. Against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu City was dominated by Carlo Ancelotti’s side as they fell to a 3-1 defeat. What Manchester City turn up at the Etihad on Sunday will likely dictate the game’s result.
Manchester City will have to be at their best to pick up all three points against Liverpool. Although, if Arne Slot’s side are at their best it may not matter based on how they’ve performed this season. But from a City point of view City’s performance against Newcastle is their path to victory. They’ll need to control the midfield battle, defend stoutly and take their chances like they did against Newcastle. There’s obviously more that goes into it but Pep Guardiola’s side has to use Saturday’s performance against Newcastle as a base for victory over Liverpool. If they play as they did against Real Madrid they’ll be in for a long afternoon at the Etihad against the Premier League leaders.
Which Manchester City turn up against Liverpool will likely dictate the result of Sunday’s massive fixture. Pep Guardiola’s side will have to be at their best to have a chance of picking up all three points at the Etihad. If they don’t and we see the timid City that was on show at the Bernabeu City may be in for a long afternoon. That’s the reality of the situation surrounding Pep Guardiola’s side currently. It will play a part in Sunday’s massive Premier League fixture.
