Lazio have finally conceded defeat in the race for Cesare Casadei who is now finalizing his transfer to Torino. So what could Claudio Lotito and Angelo Fabiani pull off in the final three days of the winter transfer session?
The Biancocelesti thought they have an agreement in place with both Chelsea and Casadei, but Torino managed to usurp them at the eleventh hour thanks to a stunning blitz on Thursday night.
So according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Lazio have now rekindled their interest in several midfielders, including Jacopo Fazzini. The Aquile were also close to signing the 21-year-old who was so keen to join Marco Baroni’s ranks in early January that Empoli coach Roberto D’Aversa decided to drop him from the squad.
However, the two clubs couldn’t find a definitive agreement on the formula and figures, which caused a back-and-forth media spat between the two managements. Nevertheless, Pedulla warns that Fazzini will now command a higher transfer fee since now that we’ve reached the final 72 hours of the transfer window.
Pedulla also mentions Giovanni Fabbian as Plan B. In recent days, Lazio and Bologna were reportedly pondering an exchange deal that would see the Inter Milan youth product land in the Italian capital, with Loum Tchaouna heading in the opposite direction.
However, the Biancocelesti may have missed the boat on that one while being occupied with the Casadei transfer saga. As the journalist explains, the Emilians are now reluctant to part ways with Fabbian following Lewis Ferguson’s latest injury setback.
Finally, Pedulla mentions Udinese’s Martin Payero as a fallback option. While the Aquile appreciate the Argentine midfielder, they would have to make room for him on their congested senior squad since he’s 26 (unlike Fazzini and Fabbian who can be registered as youth players). Lazio have opened a spot by loaning Gaetano Castrovilli to Monza, but it will be occupied by Elseid Hysaj who gained Baroni’s trust.
Therefore, the transfer market expert discusses a potential swap that would take one between Luca Pellegrini and Toma Basic to Udine. Nevertheless, it should be noted that the Croatian midfielder isn’t on Lazio’s Serie A list, so his exit wouldn’t help on that particular front.
