What Man United chiefs told Erik ten Hag about his future after Sunday’s drab draw vs. Aston Villa | OneFootball

Erik ten Hag reportedly spoke to senior Manchester United chiefs after the club’s meeting with Aston Villa on Sunday and was given an update on his future at Old Trafford.

United played out a 0-0 draw at Villa Park – a result that left the Red Devils in 14th position in the Premier League.

Ten Hag has overseen an extremely poor sequence of just two wins from United’s opening seven Premier League matches. United are also still waiting for a maiden victory in the Europa League, having drawn with FC Twente and FC Porto so far.

After the final whistle vs. Villa, Ten Hag was asked about his future and insisted that he remains in regular communication with INEOS and the new leadership group.

In his presser, the Dutchman emphasised the same as he stated that the hierarchy should have told him already if they were intent on sacking him.

A report covered by The Peoples Person last week indicated that an executive meeting is set to take place in London on Tuesday. Among those expected to be present include, Joel Glazer, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, his right-hand man Sir Dave Brailsford, CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.

According to Pete Hall of i news, one of the main items set to be discussed during Tuesday’s summit in the capital will be whether or not to fire Ten Hag in the ongoing October international break.

The news outlet explains that while Ten Hag has not been informed that his position is under immediate threat, there is still a realistic chance that he may be let go.

“The Dutchman has not been told his job is under immediate threat, i understands, but having spoken to numerous alternatives in the summer, including Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate and Thomas Frank, there is a growing feeling United’s football committee – Glazer, Ratcliffe and Ineos head of sport Sir Dave Brailsford – may pull the trigger sooner rather than later.”

Hall also reveals that in addition to Ashworth, Berrada and Wilcox, chief operating officer Collete Roche and chief financial officer Roger Bell will be in the meeting to share their findings with Ratcliffe, Brailsford and Glazer.

ESPN’s Rob Dawson divulges that performances and results this term have “caused alarm” among the top brass.

Dawson further notes, “According to sources, Ten Hag spoke to United’s leadership team following the game at Villa Park and was not given an indication that his job is under immediate threat, leading him to believe he is safe for now.”

“The 54-year-old has now gone on holiday after granting time off to first-team players not involved in internationals over the next two weeks.”

Earlier on Monday, Glazer and Ratcliffe are believed to have met at Old Trafford.

ESPN stated that the conversation was “long-standing and for various meetings.” Glazer jetted across the Atlantic to make himself available for a quarterly Fans’ Advisory Board meeting.

On potential replacements for Ten Hag, The Guardian’s Jamie Jackson says that first-team coach Ruud van Nistelrooy is “favoured as a caretaker replacement.”

Van Nistelrooy could temporarily fill in while United search for a permanent solution.
