Plymouth Argyle's Home Park is an iconic venue in the lower leagues of English football, having been the home of the Devonian side since its opening in 1901, having opened for the purpose of hosting Devonport Albion RFC in 1893.

Since then, the 'Theatre of Greens' has undergone plenty of renovation to make it the ground that it is today. The most recent of which was completed in 2020, when the Mayflower Grandstand was reopened from an almost two-year-long renovation project, allowing it to house over 5,000 Janners.

In 2025, Home Park holds a hefty 17,000 spectators on a matchday, and is certainly up to the standard for Championship football. It's a ground full of character set in a beautiful part of the world on the south coast.

However, Football League World were intrigued as to what the historical home of Argyle could look like in the year 2070. So, we asked ChatGPT to come up with a concept as to what Home Park could look like in 45 years from now.

It's hard to imagine what the world might look like in 2070, but ChatGPT has given us a glimpse into what Plymouth's home ground could be like 45 years into the future.

Firstly, the AI predicts that the capacity will be increased from 17,000 all the way to between 30,000 and 35,000 spectators, potentially doubling in size.

It also believes the stadium will be a fully-enclosed bowl design, allowing all weather events other than football to be hosted at the stadium, such as other sports and concerts, the latter of which are already hosted at Home Park today.

The club will also focus on sustainability according to ChatGPT, being a net-zero carbon stadium by utilising solar panel cladding in the ground's design, and having on-site wind turbines.

Of course, the most important part of any stadium is the experience it provides for supporters on a matchday, and Home Park certainly won't disappoint, according to ChatGPT.

Upon arrival at the stadium, the AI believes a wide range of pre-match activities will be on offer for fans to enjoy, such as an E-Sports arena with digital football simulators, and VR zones which allow fans to simulate training with the team or re-live iconic moments in the club's history.

The innovation doesn't stop upon entering Home Park though, as ChatGPT also predicts there will be plenty of new systems in place to give supporters the best possible viewing experience of the match itself.

Inside the ground, supporters will enjoy a range of exciting new technological advances to enjoy their matchday experience, such as augmented-reality headsets to display stats, holographic replays, an AI-based ticketing system to eliminate queues, and an app which allows food and merchandise to be ordered to your seat.

Whilst this must all be taken with a pinch of salt, it's exciting to imagine just how incredible the viewing experience for football could become in the future, as we continue to push the boundaries of modern technology and innovation.
