After their precious narrow victory against Belgium, Andrea Soncin's Azzurre were held to a 1-1 draw against Portugal, but they maintained unbeaten streak in Group B of the European Championships and, above all, took one step closer to qualifying for the quarter-finals. It was Italy who took the lead with twenty minutes left on the clock thanks to a splendid goal from our Cristiana Girelli – who started the match alongside fellow Bianconere Martina Lenzini, Cecilia Salvai and Lisa Boattin. A goal that capped off an excellent performance and earned the Italian number 10 the prize of Player of the Match. A goal, however, that was not enough to secure the three points and confirm qualification to the knock-out phase of the tournament, as Portugal managed to find a last minute equaliser.

Had they managed to see out the victory, Italy, like Spain – who ran out 6-2 winners against Belgium and, as a consequence, confirmed their spot among the best eight teams in Europe - would have risen to 6 points in the standings and the last match would have simply been to decide who topped Group B and the two teams would have played it with freedom as they would have already been certain of qualification for the quarter-finals.

THE BIANCONERE ON THE PITCH TODAY

Today, Tuesday 8 July 2025, it will be the turn of the Group C national teams to play their second matchday of the UEFA Women's EURO 2025.

Only one Bianconera player will be involved today with her national team: Amalie Vangsgaard. The Juventus striker and her Denmark team - defeated in the Scandinavian "derby" against Sweden - will play at 18:00 (CEST) against group leaders Germany, who go into the game off the back of a 2-0 win against Poland.
