West Ham United travel to Wolves in the second round of the Carabao Cup this evening.
Graham Potter is under real pressure after a nightmare start to the season. The Hammers are bottom of the Premier League after opening the 2025/26 season with consecutive defeats, conceding eight goals in the process. Friday’s 5-1 defeat at home to Chelsea has sparked an angry reaction from a fanbase frustrated by the club’s direction.
Wolves are also looking to build momentum and confidence, after losing each of their opening two league games. The club’s are currently 19th and 20th in the Premier League table and will hope cup competition can bring a much-needed lift.
Graham Potter may look to freshen up his side for tonight’s tie. Summer signings Kyle Walker-Peters and Callum Wilson are in contention to start, while Konstantinos Mavropanos will hope to come into a defence that has struggled badly so far this season.
The club’s ponderous midfield has been criticised and changes are expected. Freddie Potts, who impressed during the pre-season campaign, could inject fresh legs. Alphonse Areola is likely to come in in goal, with summer signing Mads Hermansen having endured a shaky start at the London Stadium
West Ham predicted XI: Areola; Mavropanos, Kilman, Aguerd; Wan-Bissaka, Potts, Ward-Prowse, Walker-Peters; Bowen, Paqueta, Wilson.
Wolves host West Ham in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday August 26th. Kick-off at Molineux is 19:30 BST.
The clash will be broadcast live in the UK on Sky Sports+.
