The forward marked his return from injury with a goal in the defeat
Graham Potter lost on his return to Stamford Bridge as West Ham were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea on Monday night.
They took the lead in the first half when Jarrod Bowen, on his return from injury, took advantage of an error to score.
But in the second half, Chelsea equalised through Pedro Neto after a lengthy VAR check, and eventually won the match when Cole Palmer’s cross took a cruel deflection into the net for an own goal by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Dom Smith was at Stamford Bridge to rate the West Ham players’ performances…
Alphonse Areola 7
Produced an outrageous save from Cole Palmer’s free-kick - a truly finger-tip save. Made another great save late on.
Vladimir Coufal 5
The Czech international was unfortunate that the ball clipped his head and played Marc Cucurella onside for Neto’s equaliser.
Max Kilman 6
Solid at the back for the most part. And won plenty of headers.
Aaron Cresswell 4
Poor decision-making when he shot from a free-kick all of 35 yards out. Subbed off late on.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 5
Marked Cucurella for much of the game and limited the Spaniard’s threat. Conceded a desperately unlucky own goal when Palmer’s cross went in off his leg.
Andy Irving 6
Came close with an early chance which he struck over the bar. Booked for taking down Palmer.
Tomas Soucek 5
Quite an ineffectual performance from the club’s vice-captain.
Emerson 5
Some nice touches but otherwise a quiet night from the Italian.
Mohammed Kudus 5
Missed one chance in the first half, before his threat decreased.
Jarrod Bowen 7
Scored an excellent goal on his return from injury. Having him back is such a boost for Potter and West Ham.
Carlos Soler 6
Tried to make things happen by bursting past Reece James on the outside and also by offering himself as an option inside.
Subs
Ollie Scarles (Emerson, 72’) 6
Acquitted himself well when he came on.
Konstantinos Mavropanos (Coufal, 72’) 5
Defended OK in the final moments.
Danny Ings (Soler, 77’) N/A
Lewis Orford (Irving, 77’) N/A
Luis Guilherme (Cresswell, 87’) N/A
Not used: Fabianski, Foderingham, Rodriguez, Casey
