All the latest news surrounding West Brom's search for a replacement for Tony Mowbray
West Brom are searching for a new manager after the decision to part ways with Tony Mowbray.
The 61-year-old was only appointed back in January, but was dismissed with a couple of games remaining in the regular campaign after the team’s play-off hopes were dashed.
Mowbray had previously enjoyed success with the Baggies by guiding them to Premier League promotion in 2009 but could not replicate that achievement this season.
Here we take a look at the latest news surrounding West Brom’s search for his permanent successor…
West Brom are interested in appointing Tottenham Hotspur coach Ryan Mason as a possible successor to Mowbray.
According to The Sun, the 33-year-old has caught the eye of the Midlands outfit for his work as part of Ange Postecoglou’s staff.
However, it is understood that Spurs’ progress in the Europa League could prove a stumbling block to completing a deal swiftly.
The London club are one game away from reaching the final of the European competition, where victory will earn them qualification for the Champions League.
It is believed that any appointment of Mason will have to wait until the competition is over, which opens the door for another appointment to be made instead if another front-runner emerges in that time.
Martí Cifuentes was linked with the vacant managerial position at the Hawthorns, with the Spaniard currently on gardening leave at QPR.
However, it was reported by Steve Hermon that he is not on the club’s shortlist of potential replacements for Mowbray.
Speaking exclusively to FLW, Lee Hendrie outlined his surprise at this development.
He believed that the 47-year-old could take West Brom forward, especially due to his work with younger players.
"Very surprised actually, because I spoke about this recently. He’s [Cifuentes] an up-and-coming coach - I’m really surprised at that,” said Hendrie.
“It does make me think about where West Bromwich Albion are actually at, at the moment, and what’s their thought process of who could come in and work the football club and make it a better place.
“Quite clearly, they are a big football club, but they need some incentive to take them forward.
“The reason why I felt that he would be one of them head coaches to come in and take West Brom forward is that he works with a lot of younger players, and he’s got that identity of doing so.
“That’s where I feel they’ve just lacked in having younger players and giving them a bit more belief.
“But [I’m] very surprised that he isn’t one of them that’s a target to take them forward.”
Mowbray may not have to wait long to take on his next role in football after departing West Brom last month.
It has been reported by Mike White that Hull City are considering the future of Ruben Selles after coming 21st in the Championship table.
The Tigers narrowly avoided relegation, and may now opt for a change in coach over the summer in order to improve their chances of climbing the standings.
It has been claimed that Mowbray is in the frame for the position, should it become available.
