‘We’re not counting on you’ – Xabi Alonso’s message for Real Madrid star | OneFootball

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso is ready to inform a big-name member of the club’s defensive ranks that he is not part of his plans for next season.

That’s according to Defensa Central, who point towards David Alaba as the player in question.

Stopper Alaba is for his part fresh off a difficult season in Spain’s capital, which saw his recovery from a serious knee injury take far longer than initially hoped.

Not only that, but when on the pitch, the Austrian’s performances at times left much to be desired.

Add to this the fact that he is set to turn 33 later this month, as well as Alaba’s hefty wage packet, and Real Madrid are ready to seek out a sale this summer.

As per Defensa Central:

‘Xabi Alonso has agreed with the club to give Alaba complete freedom to negotiate with any other team if he so desires. “In principle, we’re not counting on you, but if you want to stay, you’ll be one more ,” will be the message.’
