Watford are plotting a late swoop for Sheffield United captain Jack Robinson.
Watford are eyeing up a late move in the dying embers of the summer transfer window to bring Sheffield United defender Jack Robinson to Vicarage Road.
Ruben Selles' side have got off to a rough start to the season, with the play-off finalists propping up the Championship table, having lost all three of their opening three league matches.
In the space of one week, the Blades signed Ben Godfrey, Nils Zatterstrom, and Japhet Tanganga to bolster their backline, but could now be set to make a decision on the future skipper Robinson, who is reportedly a target of Championship rivals Watford.
The Hornets sit in the middle of the pack in the second tier, and are keen to add some experience to their defence with the acquisition of the 31-year-old before Monday's deadline, according to The Star.
With plenty of new defenders joining the Yorkshire-based outfit in a short space of time, Sheffield United could reportedly sanction a sale of Robinson, if Watford follow up on their interest with a bid.
A stalwart in the Sheffield United defence, Robinson was given the captain's armband in 2024 at the expense of Anel Ahmedhodzic, and almost guided the club to promotion last term.
The 31-year-old has featured in all three of the Blades' opening three league matches, where they fell to defeat at the hands of Bristol City, Swansea City, and Millwall respectively.
This saw the Steel City club move to bring in three new defenders in Godfrey, Zatterstrom, and Tanganga, which has potentially limited the number of minutes Robinson will get going forwards.
However, this headache may not be one that Selles has to worry about, as Watford have shown interest in bringing the former Liverpool man to Hertfordshire before the transfer window closes on Monday, according to The Star.
The Sheffield United captain is out of contract next summer, and their resolve to retain their long-serving defender could reportedly be tested, if the Hornets follow up on their initial interest.
It's yet another transitional period for Watford after Paulo Pezzolano replaced Tom Cleverley over the summer, and it's clear the club's ultimate goal is to return to the Premier League once again, having hovered in the middle of the Championship for a few years.
The Hornets' backline somewhat lacks a great deal of experience at Championship and Premier League level, which is exactly what Robinson brings in abundance, thanks to his lengthy stint at Bramall Lane, and previous experience elsewhere.
Not to mention, the 31-year-old has overseen a top-flight promotion during his spell with the Yorkshire-based club, and came ever so close to making it number two last year, but suffered late heartbreak at Wembley.
With game time likely diminishing at Sheffield United after their recent activity in the transfer market, taking advantage of this situation by poaching an experienced defender who suits Pezzolano's system could be a shrewd coup for Watford.
