Watford midfielder Giorgi Chakvetadze is set to play an important role for Georgia this summer as they embark on their first-ever major international tournament.

The 24-year-old has proven an exciting and unpredictable attacking talent since moving to Watford initially on loan last summer, and he will doubtless attract the attention of fans across Europe this summer, as Georgia look to cause an upset at the Euros.

Georgia find themselves in a fairly open group, and whilst Portugal will be heavy favourites to top the group, second place is up for grabs if Willy Sagnol's team can raise their game.

Turkey and the Czech Republic will fancy themselves to beat Georgia, but tournament football is unpredictable and Georgia have a squad stacked full of ability, especially going forward.

Chakvetadze is one of those who could cause problems for Turkey and the Czech Republic and, with the eyes of Europe watching him, he could put himself in the shop window with his performances.

Watford, though, have tied Chakvetadze down to a contract that runs until 2027 and, regardless of how well he performs in Germany, their investment looks safe.

Chakvetadze is an important player for club and country

Chakvetadze has only been at Watford for one season but is already proving to be a smart acquisition.

The midfielder, who can play both centrally and on the wing, was initially used off the bench as an impact sub. But as the season wore on, he began to earn more regular minutes, starting nine games in a row between December and February.

Watford endured a difficult season, winning just four games since the turn of the year. But Chakvetadze's development has been a bright spot in their season, and he will go into the Euros with confidence, having earned his place in Watford's starting XI.

Chakvetadze is a key component of Georgia's team and, with eight goals in 25 appearances, he is one of the side's main goal threats alongside Napoli wideman Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

If Georgia are to defy the odds and secure their place in the knockout rounds, Chakvetadze will need to be on top form and this will inevitably invite interest in his services.

International tournaments can be the making of some players and should Chakvetadze perform to his best, then Watford will have to brace themselves for offers this summer.

Watford have secured Chakvetadze's long-term future

Chakvetadze may be one to watch at this summer's Euros, but Watford will be confident they can keep hold of the midfielder after tying him down to a permanent deal in February.

Having initially arrived on loan from Belgian side Gent, Chakvetadze's move to Vicarage Road was made permanent at the end of the January transfer window after a productive spell in the side over the winter period.

Chakvetadze signed a contract until 2027 and Watford know that even if they were to sell the midfielder, he'd retain his value.

Ideally, though, Watford will look to keep hold of Chakvetadze as they attempt to rebuild under Tom Cleverley and, with the midfielder's long-term future secure, they will be sure they can fend off any potential suitors this summer.
