Kyle Walker has stressed that AC Milan must move as a unit in both the attacking and defensive phases of games after tonight’s defeat to Feyenoord.

Milan have left themselves with a difficult task in the second leg back at San Siro next week as they were beaten 1-0 in Rotterdam. The only goal of the game came in the opening few minutes as Igor Paixao’s shot from range somehow got past Mike Maignan at the near post.

What will disappoint Sergio Conceicao and his players is that there were over 80 minutes to put things right, and yet Milan’s attack display was blunt despite having the ‘Fantastic Four’ out there at the same time. If anything, the home side missed chances to add to their lead, so there is a lot to work on.

Walker spoke to Amazon Prime Video and Sky after the full-time whistle to give his thoughts on what was a disappointing night for the team but one they have the chance to put right next week. His comments come via MilanNews.

What went wrong?

“They scored and we didn’t. This is football. We need to have more conviction in front of goal.”

You are already a leader, do you believe you can help others?

“Yes, that’s my role. But it’s not a solo sport, it’s a team sport. We have to do more, the team has a lot of quality. If we don’t score goals it’s because we have to attack better as a team. We have to attack and defend all together.”

What happened?

“I think we can do better in front of goal. This is the Champions League, all the games are difficult: we have to take what we learned tonight to San Siro on Tuesday and we have to get a result.”

Can San Siro make the difference?

“The atmosphere, the crowd with their passion and the belief that we will put in: it will be a different match but also the approach must be different. It is not only valid for the forwards, we all have to contribute more.”

How do you explain Milan’s season?

“I don’t know, I’ve been here for two weeks. Since I’ve been here it’s been good, this is a setback and we have to recover first of all in the championship and then in the return leg.”
