WAC, part II

Into the final five matches of the season

We are halfway through the championship group and have just five fixtures left. To mark the midway point, we have a WAC double-header this week, with part one on Wednesday at the Red Bull Arena failing to produce a winner. Our boys now have a chance to put that right this Sunday 27 April at 14:30.

It will not be easy, by any means, with Didi Kühbauer's XI unbeaten in the championship group! The leading pack in the table has condensed, with the draw on Wednesday allowing us to make up ground on Sturm Graz. We now trail by four points, with the title battle completely open. If we are to take advantage of any further slip-ups by Sturm, we definitely need wins, however.

With the lessons learned on Wednesday on how to play against WAC, we can do that on Sunday. Our head coach Thomas Letsch has urged us to be "more urgent and clearer" in attack. A question is also whether the hosts will rest a few players ahead of the Cup final against Hartberg in midweek, as a win in that would ensure a spot in UEFA Europa League qualifying.

No matter how the opponents are to set up, our aim to take three points back to Salzburg will of course be helped by our fans supporting us there. All the info on coming to follow us can be found here.

You can also follow us from home. Sky Sport Austria are broadcasting the game exclusively in Austria, and OneFootball showing it internationally, while there will be live text updates on our website and in the FC RBS App.

We have the unusual situation of playing WAC again on Sunday. We will quietly analyse the first game and draw our conclusions from it. The fact is that we gave them hardly any chances on Wednesday, so we had them well under control in this regard. Now we need to be more urgent and clearer in some situations, however. If you get into the penalty area as much as we do, you need to have more shots on goal. We have to be more productive. WAC have not lost a single match in the championship group, and they are clearly not easy to beat. We didn't manage that at home. It's great that we have another chance on Sunday to do better.

Thomas Letsch

We are not thinking at all ahead of the clash that WAC might have the cup final on their minds. That circumstance is not playing any role for us, and we are focused fully on us and our performance, first and foremost. We want to take three points there, but we saw on Wednesday how difficult it is if we don't go to the limit.
