Vitor Roque speaks during his Barcelona presentation: “Xavi reassured me…” | OneFootball

Barcelona, despite having horrible financial strentgh, have managed to sign Vitor Roque from Athletic Paranaense for nearly €40 million, including add-ons.

The deal was completed in the summer, but the move was set for the January transfer window, after the Brazilian club season ended.

Barcelona were also fortunate enough to sort out the 18-year-old’s registration in time, as he made his debut yesternight against Las Palmas. He got around 15 minutes on the pitch, during which he pressed relentlessly, and even came awfully close to scoring.

Following his debut, Roque had his official Barcelona presentation today in front of fans. He did not speak much, but did talk about how it was his dream signing for the blaugranes.

“It’s a dream come true to be here,” he said.

“Before making my debut yesterday Xavi told me to be calm, play simply, and try to score.”

The Brazilian also talked about how he was welcomed at the club by his new teammates, who were evidently very hyped when he came close to scoring yesterday, only to miss the goal by inches.

“I was well received by my teammates, in the best way possible.”

Barcelona vice president, Rafa Yuste, also took the mic to speak about Roque, saying, “A few days ago, I shared some time with Vitor, and I can assure you, he has something that this world is greatly missing – a smile. He is a competitive beast, and comes from a very humble family.”

“I asked Xavi what he though of Vitor. He told me, he was a competitive beast. He has been here for a short time but has an impeccable attitude.”
