Virgil van Dijk has reportedly been offered a new contract by Liverpool but an agreement is yet to be reached between the two parties.
The 33-year-old is coming to the end of his existing deal, which is due to expire at the end of the season.
Liverpool captain van Dijk is reportedly in discussions over a new contract as the club but according to David Ornstein from The Athletic, van Dijk has yet to agree to the terms.
Negotiations over a new deal have yet to produce a breakthrough, but talks are ongoing, Ornstein reports, adding that the negotiations have been ongoing for some time and remain a priority for the Reds.
Van Dijk is one of three senior players, along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts are set to expire next summer. Under current rules, all three would be free to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs starting in January if extensions are not signed. However, Liverpool appear keen to avoid such a scenario.
While the Dutch international looks to continue discussions Salah has revealed he is “still waiting” for a formal offer from the club.
Ornstein also confirmed that negotiations with Salah and Alexander-Arnold are planned, with the Egyptian winger expected to receive a proposal imminently. “A contract offer to Mo Salah is anticipated soon,” he said, adding, “conversations are also ongoing between Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold.”
All three players have played pivotal roles in Liverpool’s strong start to the season under new head coach Arne Slot, and their futures will be a top priority for the club as January approaches.
