Kortrijk have announced that they have parted ways with Freyr Alexandersson. The Icelandic head coach has been sacked after the side lost 3-0 at home to recently promoted Dender at the weekend. Earlier this season, the head coach was linked with a move to Cardiff City. However, he remained at Kortrijk and leaves them sitting 14th in the Pro League.
Many expected Kortrijk to be one of the better sides this season, with Alexandersson having brought some real confidence and entertainment to the side as they pulled off a miraculous escape from relegation last season. However, a summer in which no real quality was added appears to have caused them to fall into the same trap that saw them fighting the drop last season. They are the second lowest scorers in the league with just 15 goals in 18 games, conceding 36 at the other end.
With a game against bottom of the table Beerschot coming this weekend, the board clearly felt it was time to act. Vincent Tan is the owner of both Kortrijk and Cardiff City, and it looks like both of his sides will be in a relegation battle this season. Both are also about to hire their second manager of the campaign.
