Vincent Kompany oversaw Burnley's Championship title triumph in 2023.

Vincent Kompany has reiterated the importance of working at Burnley as part of his managerial career as he closes in on a Bundesliga title win with Bayern Munich.

The Belgian is on the verge of securing a Bundesliga title with Bayern, with the team leading Bayer Leverkusen by eight points with only four games remaining.

This will be the manager’s second title win in his managerial career, having previously led the Clarets to the Championship with 101 points in 2022/2023.

However, Kompany’s side were eliminated from the Champions League midweek, losing 4-3 on aggregate to Inter Milan in the quarter-final stages.

Kompany reminded reporters in Germany of his Championship triumph with Burnley at the weekend after Bayern Munich’s 4-0 win over Heidenheim.

When asked about the prospect of a first title win, he replied, via Burnley Express: "Come on, it's not the first.

"It wouldn't be the first title though. We won the league with Burnley for 101 points.

“It's a title, it's a big title, it was very important. It wouldn't be the first one, nor as a coach or as a player.

"But the job still has to be done so I don't want to speculate too much.

"And I get your point, but my experience is just that in these moments you stay calm and you focus on your game."

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley record

Kompany enjoyed two seasons with Burnley before departing for Bayern Munich in 2024.

He guided the club to promotion to the Premier League in his first campaign in charge, winning the title ahead of Sheffield United.

However, relegation with a 19th-place finish in the second term was a disappointing result for the former centre-back.

Kompany is now set to finish his year in charge at the Allianz Arena, with just five points needed to confirm the club’s return to the top of the Bundesliga.

While the manner of his exit from Burnley was unusual, not many managers suffer Premier League relegation and then walk into a top Champions League calibre job, but he is still well remembered by supporters.

The club’s title-winning form in the 2022/23 campaign led to some great moments at Turf Moor, with the team playing impressive, expansive attacking football under his management.

It didn’t work out for him in the Premier League, but the club are now on the brink of an immediate return under Scott Parker.
