Coventry City could be in for a sell-on windfall from his sale, and now Viktor Gyokeres has dropped a hint about his possible next destination.
Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres dropped a hint about his expected Sporting CP transfer exit this summer - and it will have no doubt piqued the interest of Coventry City.
Gyokeres was speaking after his team won the Portuguese Cup by beating Benfica 3-1 after extra-time to complete a domestic double, with his penalty kick - scored 11 minutes into stoppage-time at the end of the 90 minutes - forcing the game into an extra half-hour.
A week earlier, Sporting had sealed the Primeira Liga title in Portugal by two points from Benfica with a 2-0 win against Vitória Guimarães, in which Gyokeres scored the second goal.
This capped an extraordinary season for the ex-Coventry striker, in which he finished with 52 goals from 49 games in all competitions. Over his two years in Portugal, he's scored 68 League goals in 66 matches.

After the win which sealed the league and cup double for Sporting, Gyokeres spoke to the media about his future, including a question about Premier League giants Arsenal, who are looking for a new centre-forward to spearhead their next title challenge - and he didn't shut down any links away from Lisbon.
“Let us see,” Gyokeres said, as per The Mirror.
"It’s hard for me to say, because yeah, it is football and you never know what’s going to happen in the summer. So for me to say anything else than that is impossible."
And in response to links with Arsenal, Gyokeres added: “I don’t know, I just focus on this. I’ve tried to focus on the last games because it’s so important, and I don’t want to think about anything else.
"So yeah, if anything is true, let’s see in the summer.”
All of this will be of particular interest to Coventry City on account of a sell-on clause in his contract which has been known about for a long time.
Portuguese media outlet ojogo.net reported in 2023 that there is a sell-on clause in the contract between Coventry and Sporting of 15 percent, which reduces to 10 percent should he reach certain success benchmarks.
This is on top of the amount they'd already paid out; €20 million (£17.5 million) initially, with another €4 million (£3.35 million) due in bonuses.
Speaking to talkSPORT in November 2023, the Coventry owner Doug King confirmed that Gyokeres has a release clause of £85 million inserted into his contract.
But reports about Arsenal's interest have suggested he could leave for a fee in the region of £60 million, which could net the Sky Blues an extra £6 million, presuming his 'success benchmarks' have been met.
Gyokeres had previously been linked to Manchester United on account of their decision to hire Ruben Amorim, with whom he'd worked at Sporting, as head coach last year, but Arsenal have since emerged as the front-runners to bring the 26-year-old back to England.
But regardless of his eventual whereabouts back in England, Coventry City will be most interested in what he sells for, because a proportion of any sale money will be theirs.
