Carlos Augusto delivered a ‘man of the match’ showing in Inter Milan’s 2-0 home win against Como last night.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Brazilian wingback was Inter’s highest-rated player.
Despite posting another multi-goal margin triumph, it wasn’t plain sailing for Simone Inzaghi’s side.
Indeed, Cesc Fabregas’ team gave the reigning Scudetto holders a run for their money, especially in the first half.
Except for Federico Dimarco’s feeble attempt, Inter failed to produce a shot on target in the opening 45 minutes.
However, Augusto’s thumping header three minutes after the break changed the game’s dynamics.
Left unmarked on the edge of the six-yard box, Augusto headed home Hakan Calhanoglu’s corner-kick delivery.
It was a turning point.
Before the goal, Inter had struggled to find cracks in Como’s stubborn defensive set-up.
However, the 25-year-old’s vital deadlock-breaker was a game-changer.
In addition to finding the net, Augusto made a crucial intervention to stop Como from drawing level.
His sliding tackle saved Inter shortly after the goal, denying Edoardo Goldaniga an almost-certain equalizer.
Meanwhile, Lautaro Martinez had another frustrating night.
El Toro failed to end his scoring duck in Serie A and was largely ineffective throughout the match.
