"Unrejectable offer" - Köln's top talent in for England move | OneFootball

Damion Downs has had a breakthrough season for Köln in the 2. Bundesliga: 15 goal involvements in 29 games are a great return for your first full professional season.

The 20-year-old, who is currently representing the United States at the Gold Cup, has logically attracted a lot of interest all around Europe: Southampton have now come forward as the leading side in the race for his signature.

Their first bid of €5 million was rejected by Köln, who are still hoping that Downs signs a new contract to stay at the club for longer than the current expiration date in 2026. According to the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger”, Southampton's offer however, has now increased to at least €8 million - making it very hard to reject for Köln!

Southampton view Downs as a key piece in their rebuild under new head coach Will Still, aiming for immediate promotion back to the Premier League.

A final decision is expected after Downs returns from international duty. Whether Southampton's improved offer will be enough, remains to be seen; but one thing's for sure, Köln are fighting to keep their young star at the club.
