In hindsight, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall can likely recognise that his summer move to Chelsea was not the step he should’ve taken at this stage of his career.

The midfielder was on the back of a stellar, promotion-winning campaign with his boyhood club, Leicester City, when he decided to swap the King Power for Stamford Bridge at the beginning of July.

In most cases, you could understand exactly why a player would opt for a switch to one of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ sides. However, it was evident at the time of his transfer that game time would be incredibly hard to come by, given the inflated depth in Chelsea’s squad.

Dewsbury-Hall made 48 appearances across 2023/2024, scoring 12 goals and contributing to another 15 through assists. Such form caught the eye of a host of clubs, including Manchester United, but the Reds never materialised their interest by making a formal approach.

Now, 16 matches into the 2024/2025 term, the 26-year-old has made just five league appearances, totalling only 55 minutes on the pitch. Instead, ex-Foxes boss Enzo Maresca has utilised him in the Conference League and Carabao Cup, where he has made six starts.

Rotting away on the bench at what you’d anticipate is the peak of his career is no way for a player of his calibre to be spending his time.

Alas, Dewsbury-Hall and Chelsea have seemingly come to the conclusion that he’d be better off taking his exploits elsewhere – and he’s not short of suitors. CaughtOffside claims that United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are all keeping tabs on his situation, as well as Fulham, Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion.

“He is a wonderful demonstration of someone who works very hard, and he has proved that if you work hard, the opportunities come your way,” Brendan Rodgers previously said of the Leicester graduate after working with him in the Midlands.

“He is a young man that is very determined. He has great human qualities as well. His humbleness and his vision of where he wants to go are very clear, and he knows that is just about work. It is staying calm, staying focused and improving yourself every game.”
