Union St Gilloise welcome Italian giants Roma to Brussels on Thursday evening in desperate need of getting their stuttering European campaign going. The side, who in recent years have been strong in continental competitions, have only picked up one point from three games so far. Either side of defeats to FC Midtjylland and Fenerbahce they earned a 0-0 draw at home to FK Bodø/Glimt. With just four more games to go after this clash with Roma, the side could do with registering that first win.
To do so they will need to improve quickly. Union have only won once since the end of September, and that came in the cup against second division side Eupen. At the weekend, they led against Mechelen right up until the 93rd minute before conceding. Scoring goals has been their problem so far this season.
Roma come in off the back of a 3-2 defeat to Hellas Verona at the weekend. They at least do have a win in this competition to their name, having beaten Dynamo Kyiv last time out. However, they have also lost away to Elfsborg. Union will hope to repeat that upset in Brussels on Thursday evening.
Both sides are struggling domestically, with Union near the bottom of the Pro League and Roma in 12th in Serie A. This may not be a great game for the neutrals.
