Looking to be crowned as Belgian Champions for the first time since 1935, Les Unionistes are four wins away from achieving this coveted feat. Following Club Brugge’s 4-1 mauling against Gent on Thursday, a win for Union will take them back to the top of the table with three games remaining. Having won their last meeting at Genk, the Joseph Marien Stadium will play host to a raucous atmosphere. With ‘mental weakness’ being a term associated with Les Unionistes in the last two seasons, which has seen Union lose out on the title by a singular point on both occasions, they are now in an optimal position as the run-in comes to a close.

After their spirited 0-0 draw against title rivals Brugge, HLN reported that manager Sebastien Pocognoli spoke about the mentality of the title race. “First place brings nervousness and it is better to be the hunter than the one being hunted. It will depend on small details. But for us, it may be an advantage that we have come from far away.”

As reported by DH Sports, goalkeeper Anthony Moris is clear about the team’s determination in these final matches. says, “we have four matches left and we’ll do everything we can to win them.

When questioned about injuries ahead of the tie, Pocognoli shared great news regarding several key players. Speaking to DH Sports, he said: “None of the three will be absent this Saturday. Promise’s (David) ankle ligaments were not affected; Kevin (Mac Allister) will play with a mask and Alessio (Castro-Montes) is also better, even if we must remain cautious.

With the form of Promise David becoming a driving force in the run-in, Les Unionistes are also dreaming of a UEFA Champions League group stage appearance for the first time.

A win for Genk could revive their title hopes following a dismal run of form which sees them winless in four. Yet with an inferior goal difference to both of their title rivals, a first title since 2018/19 seems incredibly unlikely for De Smurfen.

Kick off is at 20:45 CET.
