Chelsea’s decision to sign Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United last summer raised plenty of eyebrows in football circles.
Having secured an affordable obligation-to-buy clause in the deal, the Blues hoped Sancho could rediscover his best form. He hasn’t.
Chelsea are now considering paying United £5 million to opt out of making the move permanent, highlighting how his reputation has fallen.
With time running out on his Chelsea loan spell, Sancho had the opportunity to prove his worth against Tottenham Hotspur last night.
Impressing against a team which has been stinking out the Premier League this season should have been easy for a player with his ability.
He had plenty of opportunities to shine in the first half but constantly cut inside from the left flank before losing possession.
Sancho spurned a good chance to score before the break and it was no surprise when he was eventually substituted in the second half.
Chelsea paying United £5m to avoid signing Sancho would be the ultimate snub for a player who appeared to have the world at his feet.
A return to Borussia Dortmund has been mooted for Sancho. They’d be daft to even consider it based on his performances this season.
Long-suffering Blackburn Rovers fans will vent their anger for the umpteenth time at owners Venky’s when their team hosts Middlesbrough tonight. Keep an eye out for chickens.
